How Individuals and Cultures Perceive Time

by Dave

Excellent animated description on how our perception of time – both individual and societal shapes our welt am schaung or worldview – in Latin America, at the personal level people tend to be more present-oriented (legacy of hyperinflationary times, benefit of low populations enjoying nature’s bounty) with some nostalgia for past thrown in, while in India individuals tend to be future-oriented (culture of high savings, delaying gratification) with memories of past civilizational glory. There seems to be a global perceptional convergence in the urban teen demographic toward a present-oriented worldview.
